‘Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.’ John 4:23
I can vividly remember the weeks before the race when every day Gad D received a new email or message preparing us for the move Gainesville, Georgia.
The one and only Ellie Miller had just send a message to our GroupMe about the worship team, encouraging anyone else to join before meeting up in person for the first time. Something stirred in my heart and even though music has never really been my ‘thing’ I said yes and found myself in a group chat of extremely talented people from my squad.
Since then, the Lord has sent me for a whirlwind of worship. What it actually is, means, and how the Lord created me for it.
WORSHIP :: ATTRIBUTING WORTH TO SOMETHING
Let’s enter a place of giving back the worth and worship to the one it has always belonged too.
I’ve walked through what it looks like to lead others into a place of worship, in action and song. Whether that looks like singing a song, inviting others in, or playing a guitar, the Lord has stretched and challenged me. It’s taken me a while to figure out how to say the words, until some recent moments with the squad.
When coming home from Georgia, me and two other squad mates (Emma and Wes!! Love y’all!) were asked to step up into the position of ‘Worship Coordinators’. Now, on the field, we are getting a true taste of what that looks like.
Aside from weekly meetings and worship sessions, we also get to walk in worship 24/7 and ask the Lord what that looks like for our whole group. This has pushed me in ways that I wasn’t expecting.
A couple weeks ago we realized that worship had not been planned for the week. So last minute I pulled Kaylin and Kailey aside to see if they would be willing to pull something together.
In the middle of practicing, the string to the guitar snapped. With no other instruments or ideas we ended up seeing the Lord presenting an opportunity for the squad. We could’ve pulled out a speaker and thrown together a playlist, but instead we practiced acapella for about 10 minutes. And for the first time our squad worshiped with nothing but voices. What a beautiful moment not only for the squad but also my personal relationship with Jesus.
I never thought I would sing out loud to anybody but my shower curtain, but here I was, voice and all.
Thanks Jesus for giving me a voice to share. A voice to speak. A voice to sing.
And the Lord didn’t stop there for me or my squad. This past Valentine’s Day (feliz dia everyone!!) our squad leaders were organizing church for us. A few hours before it began Nicole and Jewel come walking in with an obvious search for something. Before I know it, I’m saying yes to playing guitar for their worship service.
If you know me, you know I DON’T play the guitar. I was a T-Swizzle wanna-be in elementary school and had just learned some new chords while being on the field. But I said yes anyway and led the squad in worship, once again, in a way I never thought I would.
Let’s just say the race has brought a lot of growth. I see worship in a new light now, not just as music, but a heart posture and place to live. Leading worship itself is more than singing a song or playing an instrument. Its a simple invitation.
Will you come and worship?
