Are you willing to say yes?

In the bible you see people saying yes and acting out of obedience to huge things. Mary says yes to carrying the savior in her womb. The disciples say yes to laying everything down and following Jesus. Paul says yes to sacrificing every comfort for the glory of God. These are big things.

But there are little things too. Jesus told a woman to stand. He asked for a cup of water. He did and asked for the little things too, and each time it bore fruit and gave life to those around Him.

I’ve been learning a lot about saying yes to the little things. When He asks me questions or guides me to places, or simply asks me to sit in a specific seat, will I be alert and ready to listen?

For example, yesterday I was making dinner with a few team mates. Cooked up some vegetables and rice and was ready to sit down with the team. But as I made my bowl I heard a gentle whisper asking me to sit outside on the swing. And so I did. Sat on the swing as the sun set and watched the mountains.

And then a friend walked up from the stairs, ready to head inside for their dinner. But something was off and I was in the place where I could ask questions, give a hug, and listen. It wouldn’t have happened if I was sitting inside with everyone else. She might have just walked inside and brushed it off. But a simple yes to a small direction changed everything. It built relationship and vulnerability.

The Lord has put a lot of words on my heart to share for others recently . Questions and words and phrases that maybe don’t make sense at first. But simply saying yes to them and pulling squadmates aside has altered how the Lord speaks to us.

Obedience.

So lets say yes. Yes to the big things that change life forever. But also to the little things that seem silly that could change days and perspectives and relationships.

Ministry Update: This week we officially started our work with Hope Project! My team worked alongside English Club and Hospitality. It felt incredible to really press into the community and really begin to apply all we have learned. I’m excited to share some of the stories and moments in upcoming blogs!

Love you ALL !

  2. Good testimony for any reader who struggles with the yes or possibly missing those easily lost opportunities. Warms my heart to hear what used to be called a “stop and smell the roses” moments. Those moments when you or life is passing by too fast to appreciate the things or attend to the people on our path, so fast we couldn’t see the roses, notice their color much less smell their aromas. Usually it’s someone or rather the Holy Spirit through someone who asks, “Gretchen, you really need to stop and smell the roses!!” So glad to hear that you do stop for the roses on your path.
